Chester Pizzeria makes a difference

CHESTER — In 2009, Gary Bremner, a volunteer at Families in Transition solicited a one-time donation from G & P Pizzeria in Chester. Families in Transition is a Manchester-based nonprofit group providing housing and services to the homeless. He hoped the restaurant would donate a couple of pizzas for a group birthday party, “A Birthday to Remember,” for homeless children.

George Eleftheriou, co-owner of G & P, agreed to help out. Then Bremner asked again for the next birthday party — and then another.

More than a year later, George and Peter Eleftheriou are major players in the birthday party program, donating approximately 10 pizzas for each celebration, which can include up to 40 children.

A full year after becoming involved, George Eleftheriou had the chance to attend one of the birthday celebrations. After that, he told his brother they should continue their donations.

“This is a good thing,” he said.
