Manchester, NH – Citizens Bank and the New Hampshire Union Leader today announced Families in Transition as a 2016 Champion in Action® in the category of collective impact. Families in Transition will receive $35,000 in unrestricted funding, media coverage, and extensive promotional and volunteer support for its outstanding work.

Families in Transition (FIT) is committed to providing innovative and effective interventions designed to help homeless individuals and families reach beyond the cycle of homelessness and lead healthy and successful lives. The organization also provides affordable housing and services to these families to help them get back on their feet and positively contribute to their communities.

The organization, together with New Horizons for New Hampshire, Goodwill, Southern New Hampshire Head Start and Catholic medical Center, will use the Champions in Action award to provide safe, affordable housing to homeless families in the Manchester area.

Champions in Action is part of Citizens Helping Citizens Strengthen Communities, the bank’s program designed to enhance quality of life and economic vitality in local communities. It provides support for small nonprofit organizations to recognize their contributions to communities throughout New Hampshire.

“Families in Transition has benefitted our state enormously for over 25 years by providing pivotal social services to homeless families and assisting them to lead healthy lives,” said Joe Carelli, New Hampshire president, Citizens Bank. “We are proud to embrace them as our next Champion in Action as they continue to expand and improve their services and outreach, which will support more families throughout New Hampshire.”
