Construction of Recovery Center Breaks Ground

Families in Transition Board of Trustees, staff, committee members, and supporters gathered at 161 South Beech Street in Manchester on September 17 at 3:00 PM for a groundbreaking ceremony to acknowledge the construction of a recovery center that will serve women who have substance abuse issues and a history of trauma.

The project involves construction of a 29-unit residential affordable housing complex and the rehabilitation of a church, formerly known as Our Lady of Cedars. The new structure will comprise housing, while the lower level of the renovated church will house offices for clinical and administrative use. According to Maureen Beauregard, President of Families in Transition, "This is a unique project that will allow mothers to live in stable housing with their children, while they receive innovative therapeutic and substance abuse services, and ultimately an opportunity for a healthy future. Far too often, families are torn apart due to a lack of available services and The Family Willows will address this need." Beauregard adds, "The results seen here in Manchester could drastically change the way that this population is currently being served, and it's very exciting to have our agency at the forefront."
