Youth Programs at Families in Transition
In addition to the services FIT provides to adults, we also offer a wide assortment of opportunities for children. We believe in giving kids the chance to be kids in a supportive, positive environment and we utilize many volunteers to make this possible.
Opportunities for participation
- The Children's Literacy and Arts Program (CLAP) takes place during Support Groups and Peer Case Management.
Children from infancy to adolescence are welcome to participate in this program designed to nurture a love of reading. Along with free play and snack, children enjoy being read to and completing an art activity. All CLAP programs are supervised by trained volunteers.
- Homework Club meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00. All children in kindergarten and up are welcome. Children receive tutoring from qualified volunteers and participate in activities including cooking, arts and crafts, computer games, etc.
- Girls enjoy the fun of participating in a weekly meeting as a Girl
Scout group. With the support of the local Girl Scout Council, girls have the chance to explore new crafts, games, and activities in a positive all-girl setting.
- Youth also have the opportunity to participate in special activities including a robotics workshop, cooking classes, computer lab, summer camp, and more.
- Fun and educational programs are offered during school vacation (December, February, and April) and during summer vacation.
