Federal, State, & City Dignitaries Celebrate New Property that Provides Permanent Supportive Housing for Formerly Homeless Individuals with Disabilities and Their Families

Who:       Representatives from Families in Transition – New Horizons and Housing BeneFITs, Mayor Gases and other New Hampshire dignitaries, project funders and property developers will attend this interactive event.     

What:     Short program with remarks by dignitaries, funders and participants, as well as facility tours. The Belmont & Valley Housing Program is Families in Transition – New Horizons and Housing BeneFITs newest housing development that includes 12 units of permanent supportive housing and services for formerly homeless individuals with disabilities and their families. The development started with a grant award of $2.3 million through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program which is designed to take foreclosed properties and renovate or rebuild them to bolster struggling neighborhoods throughout the country. The project was also funded through New Hampshire Housing.

When:     Thursday, December 8, 2011 – Event will run from 11 am and conclude by 12:30 pm. (Program with speakers will run from 11:15 – 11:45 am.)

Background:     Families in Transition – New Horizons is a nonprofit organization that provides safe, affordable housing and comprehensive social services to individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, enabling them to gain self-sufficiency and respect. In 2009, FIT established Housing Benefits, an independent nonprofit and Community Based Housing Development Organization to improve the life for low- and moderate-income residents by increasing the supply and quality of affordable housing in New Hampshire.  Additionally, FIT also owns and operates two thrift stores in Manchester and Concord, NH, and a new commercial cleaning company, which serve as economic engines to help pay for services they provide.
