MANCHESTER – Citizens Bank and the New Hampshire Union Leader named Families in Transition – New Horizons as a 2016 Champion in Action in the category of collective impact on Wednesday.
The nonprofit will receive $35,000 in unrestricted funding, media coverage and promotional and volunteer support.
Families in Transition – New Horizons helps homeless individuals and families reach beyond the cycle of homelessness. The organization also provides affordable housing and services to families to help them get back on their feet.
“This award doesn’t belong only to Families in Transition – New Horizons, it belongs to all of those who work here with us,” said Maureen Beauregard, president and founder of Families in Transition – New Horizons, addressing a large gathering on hand to celebrate the award at the organization’s building on Lake Street. “We know we can’t do it alone, just like families can’t do it alone.”
The organization, together with New Horizons for New Hampshire, Goodwill, Southern New Hampshire Head Start and Catholic Medical Center, will use the Champions in Action award to provide safe, affordable housing to homeless families in the Manchester area.
Champions in Action is part of Citizens Helping Citizens Strengthen Communities, the bank’s program designed to enhance quality of life and economic vitality in local communities.
It provides support for small nonprofit organizations to recognize their contributions to communities throughout New Hampshire.
“Families in Transition – New Horizons has benefitted our state enormously for over 25 years by providing pivotal social services to homeless families and assisting them to lead healthy lives,” said Joe Carelli, New Hampshire president, Citizens Bank. “We are proud to embrace them as our next Champion in Action as they continue to expand and improve their services and outreach, which will support more families throughout New Hampshire.”
The New Hampshire Union Leader is pleased to recognize Families in Transition – New Horizons, said Joe McQuaid, president and publisher.
“We are honored to lend our support to their work providing important intervention services and affordable housing to homeless families in New Hampshire,” McQuaid said.
