Proceeds from Ticket Sales and Supporter Packages Will Help Provide Healthy Meals for the Homeless

MANCHESTER, NH— Families in Transition – New Horizons (FIT), a Concord- and Manchester-based homeless housing and services provider, partners with the City of Manchester for the second year of the World’s Championship Chili Cookoff. The weekend long event begins on Friday, September 30 and ends on Sunday, October 2, 2011. Tickets to the event and supporter packages can be purchased from FIT and a percentage of the proceeds from the sales will benefit FIT’s newest housing program for the homeless.

The 2011 World’s Championship Chili Cookoff is a family-friendly occasion that will be held in Manchester’s Veterans Park. Entertainment, music and kids’ activities will be available the entire weekend. Event goers will get to taste-test at least five different kinds of chili.  Chili competitors from around the world have the chance to win up to $25,000.

Tickets and supporter packages can be purchased through FIT online at www.fitnh.org or in person at OutFITters Thrift Store, 394 Second St, Manchester or OutFITters Thrift Store Boutique, 5 Market Lane, Concord.  Proceeds from ticket sales and supporter packages that are purchased from FIT will go to one of the organization’s newest housing developments in Manchester, the Lowell Street Housing Program, to provide healthy meals for the families participating in the program.  This housing development gives participants a temporary place to live until more permanent housing becomes available to them. Families have their own bedroom and bathroom; however, they share a community kitchen that requires a trained staff.

Further support for FIT’s Lowell Street Housing Program is raised through the purchase of Supporter Packages. Each Supporter Package, ranging from $100-$1,000, includes event passes, a listing in the Union Leader event program, VIP Tent passes, kick-off party invitations and Chili Cookoff t-shirts.

Families in Transition – New Horizons is a nonprofit organization that provides safe, affordable housing and comprehensive social services to individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, enabling them to gain self-sufficiency and respect. Additionally, FIT also owns and operates two thrift stores in Manchester and Concord, NH which serve as an economic engine to help pay for services they provide.
