SIX HUNDRED COMMUNITY LEADERS BRAVE THE SNOWSTORM AND ATTEND 25TH ANNUAL THANKSIVING BREAKFAST EVENT – The snowstorm didn’t scare away 600 people from attending Families in Transition – New Horizons Thanksgiving Breakfast event. All told, the event, in its 25th year, netted nearly $168,000 in support of the shelter, food pantry and soup kitchen at New Horizons in Manchester, NH.Nearly $168,000 Raised to Provide Shelter and Food to Manchester’s Most Vulnerable
Manchester, NH – Tuesday’s snowstorm didn’t scare away 600 people from attending Families in Transition-New Horizons (FIT-NH) Thanksgiving Breakfast. The event raised nearly $168,000 that will be used to help fund the New Horizons programming which includes two shelters, a soup kitchen and pantry in Manchester, NH.
Program speakers included United State Senators, Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan; Congressman-Elect Chris Pappas; Governor Chris Sununu; Mayor Joyce Craig; Commissioner Jeffrey Meyers; Dick Anagnost, Co-Chair, FIT-NH; Maureen Beauregard, President; FIT-NH; David Cassidy, Co-Chair, FIT-NH; Richard Goulette, Participant, FIT-NH; Dr. Peter Kachavos, Trustee, Cogswell Benevolent Trust; and Alex Walker, Executive VP and COO, Catholic Medical Center.
David Cassidy, Board Co-Chair, FIT-NH, told the audience about the vision for the New Horizons Programming and mentioned to attendees that the organization was going to need their help in order to make the vision come to fruition, “Our vision includes physical enhancements at our Angie’s Shelter to transition it to permanent supportive housing so that we can move people up and out of our shelter into safe, long-term supportive housing, which is desperately needed. It also means that at the New Horizons Shelter, in the short-term, we’ll be reconfiguring the second floor shelter space so that it is more trauma informed, has specific areas for people who have varying needs and will have space for substance use treatment case management. In 2019, we will move the visioning process forward and we will need you to make the needs of those we serve possible,” continued, Cassidy.
The lead event supporters include Cogswell Benevolent Trust, AutoFair Automotive, Eastern Bank, Spectrum Marketing Companies, and Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund.
Families in Transition – New Horizons is a nonprofit organization that provides hunger relief, emergency shelter, safe affordable housing, and supportive services to individuals and families who are homeless or in need, enabling them to gain self-sufficiency and respect. One of their largest programs is the New Horizons Shelter which also has a soup kitchen and food pantry. Annually, the soup kitchen serves over 73,444 meals, the food pantry distributes over 12,134 bags of food, and the shelters provide safe haven for over 64 adults each night.
