Families in Transition – New Horizons VISTA Program Invites Nonprofits and Government Agencies

to Apply to Host Professional VISTA Volunteers for the Year

MANCHESTER, NH – Families in Transition – New Horizons (FIT) seeks applications from nonprofits and government agencies throughout New Hampshire that are interested in becoming a host site for a professional AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) during the July 2016- July 2017 program year. VISTA host sites benefit from a VISTA volunteer by receiving the support of a full-time staff member without the high cost of salary and benefits.

AmeriCorps VISTA, a program managed by the Corporation for National & Community Service (CNCS), comprises a nationwide network of volunteers who commit to serve full-time for at least one year at nonprofit, faith-based, or government agency host sites working to fight poverty throughout the United States. The Families in Transition – New Horizons VISTA Program partners with organizations, called “host sites”, such as the United Way of the Greater Seacoast, New Hampshire Department of Education, and other nonprofits across New Hampshire to place VISTAs in the following service areas: education, veterans’ services, economic opportunity, health, and disaster relief and prevention.

“Our VISTA program brings the benefits of VISTA to agencies and individuals across New Hampshire,” said FIT VISTA Program Manager, Emily Melhorn. “Everyone wins with VISTA: agencies get a passionate, full-time staff member at an affordable cost; VISTAs gain professional experience while building capacity at their agency; and communities benefit from agencies’ strengthened capacity to provide critical services to those most in need.”

Qualifying host sites must fulfill a number of program requirements, including submitting an application to the Families in Transition – New Horizons VISTA Program by 5:00pm, Friday, March 18, 2016. Interested agencies are strongly encouraged to attend a VISTA Host Site Information Session at 161 S. Beech Street, Manchester, NH, on Wednesday, February 24, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, to learn more about the Families in Transition – New Horizons VISTA Program. Attendance is highly encouraged; RSVP by calling 603-641-1143 x 357 or e-mailing [email protected] on or before Friday, February 19, 2016.
