Wicked FIT Run 5K set for Oct. 26 in Concord
October 18, 2019
Families in Transition-New Horizons (FIT-NH) one of New Hampshire’s largest homeless services provider, so far this year in Concord alone, provided stable housing and case management services to 70 people, 36 of whom are children. Their housing is inconspicuous, so many in the community don’t know that they are providing this service to the homeless in Concord. One of the ways the organization engages with the community, in a public way, is through its annual costume-themed Wicked FIT Run certified 5K event in Concord. This year, the run will take place Oct. 26 at 9:30 a.m. in Rollins Park.
“We’ve expanded our services in Concord to not only have the 30 units of longer-term, stable housing for families and individuals who are homeless, but we now have an Outreach Team walking throughout Concord connecting people experiencing unsheltered homelessness with critical, often lifesaving resources,” said Michele Talwani, VP Communications for FIT-NH. “We want the community to know that even though our retail store is no longer in downtown, we still need their support so we can continue doing our mission right here in Concord. One way they can do that is participating in our Wicked FIT Run/walk,” Talwani said.
Each year, the event attracts over 500 runners and walkers. Funds raised from the event will provide a home and hope to homeless families and individuals. People are encouraged to create teams and dress in costume. Prizes will be awarded in several costume categories, as well as race finish times. The cost to register before the event is $20 for adults over 25, $15 for individuals ages 11-19, and free for kids younger than 10. Registration will be available the day of the race for an additional $5. To register before the event, visit support.fitnh.org/wickedfitrun.
