Our Mission: To Prevent and Break the Cycle of Homelessness

Our mission moves us to empower people experiencing homelessness. We do that by providing dignified housing, by delivering comprehensive and innovative solutions, by developing collaborative relationships with our clients and partners, and by creating opportunities for donors and volunteers committed to making a difference where they live and work.

With headquarters in Manchester, NH, and locations in Concord and Wolfeboro, Families in Transition includes the Outfitters Thrift Store and Willows Treatment Center brands.

Housing & Property Management

Families in Transition operates 22 properties around southern New Hampshire. Our residential
buildings and programs provide housing and emergency shelter for nearly 600 individuals and
families on any given night. These refurbished historic sites and newly built housing facilities
are carefully planned and maintained with sustainable design principles. Our buildings offer
clean, safe, affordable living to the many residents who come to call our properties home.

Other Components of Our Work

Property Governance and Oversight

Housing Benefits is a Community Based Housing Development Organization (CHDO) that was formed in 2009 in response to encouragement from both the City of Manchester and the New Hampshire Housing and Finance Authority. Housing Benefits works closely with Families in Transition to develop affordable housing in our communities.

Outfitters Thrift Store

The Outfitters Thrift Store serves as a vital source of revenue to fund the mission of Families in Transition and also serves as a channel for donated goods to support our program participants, whether it is for essential clothing needs for people experiencing homelessness in our emergency shelters, or through store vouchers for low-income families in our housing programs.

Willows Treatment Center

The Willows Substance Use Treatment Center specializes in providing evidence-based practices to address substance use disorders as well as mental health and trauma. We provide support for overall wellness and recovery and focus on breaking down the barriers so that each individual can receive the treatment they need.
