How Your Gift Helps

Today, the Families in Transition organization is a product of two unbelievable organizations with a long and rich history of service in the New Hampshire community. Our emergency shelter and food pantry’s founding story starts in 1973 with the New Horizons organization and overlaps with the start of our dedicated housing programs and Families in Transition brand in 1991. These two impactful organizations joined forces in 2018 and moved forward under the Families in Transition name. Providing more than 200 affordable housing units and an array of dedicated services, we are working as one to overcome homelessness and hunger.

What is the Mission of Families in Transition?

The mission of Families in Transition is to prevent and break the cycle of homelessness.

In all that we do, we strive to treat others with dignity and respect, build collaborative relationships, and empower people to achieve their fullest potential.

Your Support Changes Lives

Through the assurance of housing and supportive services, Families in Transition allows program participants to build a life after homelessness. Whether people are experiencing homelessness for the first time or have dealt with chronic homelessness, they get the support they need. This is the story of Dedra:

“It was just like a cycle, a never-ending cycle. I didn’t see any way out of it. I tried, and I didn’t succeed. People don’t always succeed. It doesn’t mean they’re bad people. It just means they needed some help.”

Dedra experienced homelessness on and off for many years. After being evicted, she had difficulty finding a place to live. She and her family had no place to call home until they secured an apartment in one of the Families in Transition affordable housing properties.
