In November of 2002, with the generous funding
provided by The Great
Bay Foundation Families in Transition officially expanded into the area of social entrepreneurship
with the opening of Family
Outfitters Thrift Store (external link)[website]. In
addition, Family Outfitters Thrift Store
serves as an employment & training program for Families
in Transition participants and alumni who have the opportunity
to gain retail expertise at all levels. In addition numerous classes are offered through the Employment & Training
Program, including a comprehensive computer training program.
The thrift store is a revenue stream for Families in Transition - 100% of store profits are used to support ongoing programs and services
of the agency. This means that virtually every purchase or donation that you make can have
a direct impact on homeless families in your community. In addition, participants of Families in Transition are given vouchers to the store upon entering the Families in Transition program so that they can purchase basic living necessities.
