Housing Benefits

Mission: To provide critical housing options for low income and homeless individuals in New Hampshire.

Since its founding in 2009, Housing Benefits has served as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO), established with the encouragement of both the City of Manchester and the New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority.

Over the years, Housing Benefits has successfully secured funding from federal, state, and local agencies—including the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), New Hampshire Housing, and the City of Manchester.

Housing Benefits develops and maintains affordable housing that strengthens communities across the state. Our most recent project was the redevelopment of 434 Union Street in Manchester, which added 11 units of permanent supporting housing to our portfolio.

Housing Benefits funds the maintenance of, and any upcoming expansion to, the 236 units of housing across southern New Hampshire which Families in Transition owns. These residential units provide housing for nearly 600 individuals and families every night.

These units and properties – both refurbished historic sites and newly constructed facilities – are developed and maintained by Housing Benefits, a Community Housing Development Organization.

Housing Benefits ensures each property is safe, stable, and well-maintained, supporting formerly homeless individuals and families as they rebuild their lives and work toward lasting independence.

In 2026, Housing Benefits received approval from the City of Concord to move forward with an application for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to add four housing units in Concord while they continue to look for other opportunities to develop more affordable housing units that complement our housing portfolio.
