Communication of your walk
– Each school has complete flexibility on how and when to communicate with parents and students
– Consider starting four to five weeks before your walk
– Communicate to parents: online or printed letter
– Announcements to students
– In classroom introduction: the school walk point person, or someone else, visits each classroom and gives a brief introduction about the walk and why your school is participating.
Tips from previous Manchester School walks
It is important to have a team helping you, especially when you are first starting out having the walk at your school. Have a couple different people counting out the money and tracking it on the computer since it gets crazy as your walk gets closer.
If you’re in an elementary school and walking around your school, consider having the PE teacher practice the loop in gym class a few days before.
The classroom teacher collects donations and once a week brings them to a designated staff person to keep and track in a spreadsheet.
Suggestion: Have a backup plan for inclement weather.
Make it a challenge: set a fundraising goal for your school.
How to accept donations: online donation link, checks, cash. Checks should be made out to Families in Transition. Checks held by school point person until their walk. Please write your school’s name in the memo line of the check.
